Corballa Carnival, Co. Sligo

The village of Corballa, situated in western Co. Sligo, near the Mayo border, held its first carnival in 1959 in the
then standard 40 x 100 - 4,000 sq ft marquee. It was in aid of St. Brendan's Social Club (almost all carnivals were "in aid of"
some cause or another). By 1961, the carnival had been moved to dates in July. In 1966 the event changed its name to the
"Corballa Dancing Festival" and had been moved back to opening in May.
It also appears this was the last year the carnival was held.
